Your problem is you don't have a tank to take the damage.

I tried this with tanks. Every time they would run ahead to the mob I tried to pull and aggro entire room (no matter what boss I tried this with). My group isn't wiping out, it's the NPC's dropping that ends my mission.

tanks are not a must
well, you said you are a ranger/monk, i didnt had much problems when i tried it, henchies as well too.
do you have savage/distracting shot? if you do, get your self a long bow, and shot this skill at a mob, then fall walk back slowly, if you have both, use the other one when you see they try to return to their normal spot.
another tip would be:
bring jameiĀ“s gaze and put 8 or 9 points in healing prayers, so that you can give them a little health boost when they need it, it has bought me quite needed time.
also if you can, bring dust trap, and place it at the end of the bridge where you pull them, that way you will blind the warriors as well as deal damage and scatter them.

I think that might be my problem right there, I'm using a purple shortbow and the lack of range is probably a factor.

Well all it took was a change to a Longbow and I finished it easily. Only a Standard finish but when I gear up better I will come back for a Masters"
Thanks again AW Lore!

well, im not a title seeker, so master rewards and stuff isnt much of my stuff .
but try joining a pug that advertises for master reward.
try having a mm in your team or a SS necro, with Blood ritual so that there is no stopping for energy regen.
a ranger with eoe (use it against the hordes of afflicted, just make sure your team isnt in the middle of the afflicted group or they could wipe your team with the soul explosions+eoe)
a dom mesmer with interrupts, he can make certain bosses go down even faster.

I got my 4th character, a necro, to the temple yesterday...I noticed a load of masters groups trying to get a party together and one invited me, asked me if I was a MM, to which I said "no" (because I'm Curses/battery) and they kicked me.
So I eventually found a group...even though we all said "we need healers", the group leader did not bring any healers. So we started the mission, my job was pretty much to just resurrect the assassin and warrior contunially, whilst popping off an odd curse now ang again. Somehow we managed to get to the 6th room, with no healer, where we got pwnd. That was kind of surprising in itself!
After we got back, everyone left the group and it was just me and the assassin left. I usually don't like assassins, for the obvious reasons but this one seemed really nice so, with me now being head of the team, I started advertising for a group. Several people accepted the invitations and then left immediately. I told the assassin I was going to give up and try with henchies...he said he would go do something easier and "good luck with that m8 ".
So, I chose Cynn, Talon, Devona, Jamei, Sister Tai, Aidan, and Headmaster Vhang. The first 5 rooms we steamrollered our way through, really quite surprising.... The sixth and seventh rooms I hate and the sixth room saw us all nearly wiped out. Luckily I managed to retreat with Tai, Jamei, Togo and Mhenlo and managd to use Rebirth on the rest of the henchies without aggroing the rest of the afflicted. Slowly we managed to battle through the two rooms and finished the game with standard reward. Really quite satsfactory, considering they're henchmen and have no concept of "I'll lure - you lot stay back" - Talon and Danika want at them! Still that made me kinda happy I'd managed to complete it with henchies since everyone trying to get into the mission with 2 human monks was having no luck. I went back to the temple, just out of curisoity, and the masters group that kicked me earlier was still there!
Henchies FTW!
I have Masters on my first character, it's the only one I care about when it comes to titles, she almost has two max titles now, then I guess I'll have to work on Tyria.

I've henched this mission 3 times so far with my Ranger, Warrior, and now Ritualist. I never bring a henchie tank and I always do fine.

Trying to get Masters with henchmen in Tahnnakai Temple is rather hard. I would suggest trying with pug or guild/alliance group instead.
However, if you really want try with henchmen, bring those who can deal damage to multiple enemies at once, like Cynn, Kai Ying, Eve and Su. One healer Monk and one Ritualist is enough. You'll also need pure luck to succeed getting Master-reward.
Oh yeah, Touch Rangers FtW!

That is a really bad reason to kick someone from a team. I use MSN to talk to my brother (who does live 400 miles away - not in the same house! ) which does cause lag for him, from time to time (my connection is much faster ) but we can then complain to each other about the other players. I wouldn't want other people listening in to our conversation, or have 7 people all screaming down the microphone at once "I need blood ritual - GIVE ME ENERGY!" - because I would just be tempted to leave the game!
